Wanted: Sports Coordinator

Our fabulous Sports Coordinator has been headhunted for a role they simply couldn't refuse, which means we have an exciting opportunity. If you believe every child deserves the chance to play, grow, and shine through sport, we want to hear from you!

This position is 15 hours per week, term time only, but can potentially be partnered with a Learning Assistant role for the balance of the school day.

Your key responsibilities will include:

●     Event Management - within the curriculum:

  • School wide - organizing school-wide athletics, such as cross-country, and swimming sports.

  • External - partnering with external sports facilities and specialist coaches to coordinate school visits / coaching clinics.

  • Local schools - liaising with local schools to organise interschool events, such as summer and winter sports days.

●     Event Management - in conjunction with local clubs and organisations:

  • Liaising with local sports bodies to enter teams into out-of-school competitions.

  • Utilising strong systems to organise and communicate to the teams and whānau.

  • Recruiting, and coordinating with, parent managers and coaches to ensure our teams are supported and informed.

●     Promotion

  • Acting as the "Voice of Sport" at Nelson Central School — promoting opportunities to tamariki, and their whānau, to drive participation.

  • Organizing engaging activities to keep our kids active and happy.

●     Organisation

  • Managing the "engine room"—including the sports budget, equipment, uniforms, and keeping the PE shed in world-class order!

About You

You don’t need to be an Olympic athlete, but you do need to be a champion of organization. We are looking for someone who is:

The Communicator: you have exceptional communication skills (written and verbal), and are a tech-savvy administrator. You are warm, friendly, and able to talk to anyone—from a shy 5-year-old to a busy regional sports director.

The Organiser: you have a system for everything, and never miss a deadline.

The Visionary: you are passionate about inclusive sport for all tamariki, and understand the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in a school setting.

The Supporter: you have a current clean driver’s license (essential) and are willing to undergo police vetting
